Originally referred to as 'the Bat-man', the comic book hero first appeared in May 1939. Based in Gotham city, his secret identity is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy industrialist, playboy and philanthropist. For many years, secretly, most men have wanted to be Batman!

He is a bit different to other superheroes. His main rivals - Spiderman & Superman are covered in the colours of the American flag, whereas he dresses in strong blues and blacks. He has more of a mystery about him. He vows to dedicate his life to getting revenge on the criminal world for his parents death. Superman arrived from another planet, enough said!
